About Me

I am a registered teacher and with 20 years classroom experience in Primary Schools. I have experience classroom teaching and individual tutoring students from Year 2 to Year 8. I am also currently employed part time as a specialist Maths Support teacher in an Independent School.

I have the diagnosis tools and skills to assess where students are having difficulty and can tailor a program to your child’s individual needs. I re-teach concepts giving adequate time to consolidate learning before moving to the next topic.  I use maths equipment, visual prompts, colours, helper charts, music, memory games and board games to reinforce learning.

Most of all – I make Maths fun!

Inspired Tutoring

Some children need to learn in a different way to make maths meaningful and memorable.

Why do we say ‘add up’ when we really add down?

This is an example of how we often say things in maths that is confusing to children. Being specific and consistent with use of terminology is important. There are many processes students do without fully understanding why. Sometimes teachers make the jump from concrete materials to using symbols before students have had adequate foundation work.

Developing more complex processes in Maths relies on building upon previous knowledge. Some children encounter problems due to language and literacy difficulties. Sometimes issues arise due to missing steps in the process or not understanding prior knowledge.

Many students who struggle with Maths face difficulties with loss of confidence and often see themselves as hopeless at Maths. My job is to help students think of Maths as fun and an area that they can feel success.
